Gujarat Samachar, a privately owned newspaper publishing company founded in 1932 and headquartered in India, publishes Gujarati-language newspapers. Employing approximately 100 people as of 2023, it claims to be the world's highest-circulating Gujarati newspaper.
On May 15, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) arrested the director of Lok Prakashan Ltd, Bahubali Shah, following raids on his premises. The arrest was in connection with a case of alleged money laundering. The ED later opposed a bail application filed by Shah. A special court granted Shah regular bail. Separately, reports emerged, including in Gujarat Samachar, of looting at the Air India Flight AI 171 crash site, with miscreants allegedly posing as volunteers. The ED also submitted to an Ahmedabad court that Lok Prakashan, which publishes Gujarat Samachar, along with the chief editor, allegedly routed over Rs 27 crore to acquire shares of NTPC and TCS during their IPOs.
