On March 26, 2026, Hellas Sat and Sparkle successfully completed a Proof of Concept (PoC) demonstrating quantum-safe satellite and terrestrial communications between their data centers in Greece. Earlier on the same day, Cyprus achieved the first operational use of EU GOVSATCOM secure satellite communications services, with Hellas Sat providing reliable governmental satellite capacity. Previously, on March 3, 2026, Hellas Sat, CNES, Thales Alenia Space, and Safran signed a framework cooperation agreement with France, Cyprus, and Greece to develop an optical communications system for future secure connectivity. This development followed the official launch of the EU GOVSATCOM initiative's operational phase on January 30, 2026, strengthening Europe’s secure satellite communications. In an earlier development, on December 15, 2025, Hellas Sat and Space Compass Corporation signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) for technical and commercial collaboration on Optical Inter-Satellite Connectivity, focusing on cross-operator optical communication interoperability.
