ION Media Networks, also known as Ion Media, LLC and formerly known as Paxson Communications Corporation, is a privately owned company headquartered in the US. It functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer and is a subsidiary of Scripps Networks. Founded in 2007, the company employs approximately 310 individuals. Specializing in broadcast television and radio, the company operates the linear broadcast networks Ion Television, Ion Mystery, and Ion Plus. Prior to its acquisition by the E. W. Scripps Company on January 7, 2021, and its merger with Katz Broadcasting (which created the new Scripps Networks division to manage these assets), the company owned and operated over 71 television stations in most major American markets through its television stations group, Ion Media Television, and also operated Qubo and Ion Shop. The company had operated as a private entity since emerging from bankruptcy in 2009.
