A New York federal judge ordered secondary-market ticket plaintiffs into arbitration under New Era ADR’s revised rules on July 9, distinguishing the Ninth Circuit’s earlier rejection of Ticketmaster’s prior arbitration setup. This ruling represents a win for Live Nation Entertainment regarding its use of mandatory arbitration clauses. Earlier on July 9, Live Nation announced its "Local Noise Philadelphia" battle-of-the-bands competition, offering winners a performance slot at Brooklyn Bowl Philadelphia and an opening opportunity at Freedom Mortgage Pavilion. Previously, on July 8, Live Nation intensified its efforts to overturn a federal jury's April verdict that found the company and Ticketmaster liable for monopolizing significant portions of the live entertainment business. The company argued in new court filings submitted on July 2 that state enforcers never proved the kind of harm antitrust law requires, simultaneously requesting a new trial as an alternative if the court denies their primary request to rule in their favor.
