Maccabi World Union is a non-profit organization headquartered in Israel. Founded in 1921, it employs approximately 60 individuals. The organization functions as a Jewish sports body, operating across five continents, 80 countries, and encompassing 450 clubs and 450,000 members. It focuses on utilizing sports and various informal educational activities to foster connections between Jewish people of all ages and Judaism and Israel, aiming to transcend political and sectarian divisions.
Maccabi World Union recently launched the "Jewish Sports in Poland" exhibition at the World Jewish Sports Museum in Kfar Maccabiah on January 31, 2026, ahead of International Holocaust Memorial Day, in partnership with the Embassy of Poland in Israel. Concurrently, 350 young Maccabi leaders from Maccabi Tzair Argentina arrived in Israel for a 20-day "Bekef Hadracha" leadership training program, run in partnership with Maccabi Argentina clubs FACCMA Argentina and Yachad Maccabi Programs. Previously, on January 30, the organization signed a memorandum of understanding to enhance sports accessibility for people with disabilities, particularly injured IDF veterans and other competitors in this summer’s Maccabiah Games in Israel. This follows the December 30, 2025 appointment of Roy Hessing as CEO of Maccabi World Union. Hessing, a former member of Israel’s national water polo team, joined the organization in 2011 as Sports Director of the Maccabiah Games before becoming MWU’s Deputy CEO for Sports. On the same day, David Korenfeld, who began his involvement with Maccabi Tzair Uruguay over six decades prior, was appointed Vice Chairman of the World Zionist Organization (WZO).
