Media Broadcast, a privately owned company and subsidiary of Freenet, is headquartered in Germany. Founded in 1961, it employs approximately 340 individuals and reported $250.9M in revenue as of 2024, functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer. The company specializes in connectivity infrastructure, planning, setting up, and operating multimedia transmission platforms for TV and radio, utilizing modern transmitter, cable, and satellite networks.
Media Broadcast secured an extended distribution contract with German broadcaster ProSiebenSat.1 until December 30, 2030, for its programs via DVB-T2 HD. Announced on March 24, 2026, this agreement ensures six of ProSiebenSat.1's HD channels—ProSieben HD, Sat.1 HD, Sat.1 Gold HD, Kabel Eins HD, Sixx HD, and ProSieben Maxx HD—will remain available in high definition quality on the terrestrial DVB-T2 network with a freenet TV subscription. The deal extends ProSiebenSat.1's commitment to the digital-terrestrial TV platform in Germany, where Media Broadcast operates as a DTT network operator. Earlier, on February 1, 2026, Media Broadcast renewed its multi-year partnership with French service provider Dotscreen, retaining Dotscreen for the evolution, support, and maintenance of the Freenet TV HbbTV portal. Dotscreen has managed the HbbTV front end and its associated backend for Freenet TV since the service launched in 2016.
