Previously, on July 7, Rogers announced it signed an agreement to buy the remaining 25% ownership stake in MLSE from Kilmer Sports for C$4.35 billion, thereby increasing its ownership to 100%. This acquisition is part of Rogers' broader strategy to consolidate its sports assets, with intentions to sell a minority stake in its combined sports media and entertainment holdings next year. Earlier, on July 6, Rogers Communications Inc. first announced the deal to acquire the 25% stake from Kilmer Sports Inc. for C$4.35 billion, a move Rogers chief executive Tony Staffieri characterized as a "defining moment" for the company.
