Motorsport Ireland, a privately owned entity based in Ireland, founded in 1901 with approximately 20 employees, reported $7.2M in revenue as of 2023, focusing on motorsports and cycling. The organization functions as the National Governing Body for four-wheeled motorsports in Ireland, affiliated with the Fédération Internationale de l'Automobile (FIA) in Geneva and Paris. Its jurisdiction covers the 26 counties and has under its umbrella 32 affiliated motor clubs that organize sporting events. Annually, approximately 230 events are listed in the official calendar, spanning 11 different branches of the sport, and Motorsport Ireland issues over 3,500 Competition Licences each year.
Motorsport Ireland intends to re-engage with the Government this summer on a bid to bring a round of the World Rally Championship (WRC) to the country, according to organisation president Aiden Harper. Ireland last hosted a championship round in 2009. This initiative follows the governing body's earlier decision on January 3, 2026, to put its Rally Ireland bid on hold, effectively ruling itself out of contention for a place on the 2027 FIA World Rally Championship calendar. That move came after Motorsport Ireland appointed an outside facilitator to assess its operations, governance, and long-term objectives. Meanwhile, the Irish contingent across various WRC categories continues to expand; on January 12, 2026, young rally drivers Kyle Drury and James McShea participated in a development experience in Norway. This growth is principally due to figures like John Coyne, patron and founder of the Motorsport Ireland Academy, who was inducted into the Motorsport Ireland Hall of Fame on December 21, 2025, the same date Craig Rahill stepped up to Junior WRC.
