Founded in 1922 in Belgium as the Union Internationale du Yachting Automobile, and now employing approximately 30 individuals, the organization functions as the international governing body of powerboating, specializing in motorsports and cycling.
Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM) and Race World Offshore sealed a multi-year agreement on April 29, 2026. Previously, on March 7, 2026, UIM celebrated powerboat racing's top achievers at its annual awards. Earlier, on May 25, 2025, UIM representatives participated in a high-level forum at the Cinnamon Lakeside Hotel Colombo, Sri Lanka. The forum aimed to popularize powerboating and harness its potential for industrial and tourism growth, with attendees including Deputy Minister of Industries and Enterprise Development Chathuranga Abeysinghe, the Chamber of Marine Industries of Sri Lanka (CMISL), and the Lanka Powerboat Association.
