On February 6, 2026, research underscored the central role community health workers (CHWs) play in delivering essential primary health services in low-income settings. These workers provide doorstep services, including diagnosis and treatment of childhood illnesses, health promotion, and referrals, extending health systems to underserved populations. This follows a December 23, 2025 announcement that Muso, a global health NGO dedicated to reducing child and maternal mortality, signed a data use agreement with IFPRI. The agreement enables new research questions to be studied using data from Muso's recent randomized controlled trial (RCT) of proactive home visits in Mali’s Bankass region, specifically examining how the effectiveness of CHW home visits in reducing under-five mortality correlates with the population-to-CHW ratio in rural, fragile, and conflict-affected Mali.
