NagraStar, a privately held company founded in 1998 and headquartered in the United States, is a joint venture between Dish Network Corporation and Kudelski SA. With approximately 80 employees, the company specializes in providing content security solutions for satellite and internet-based television systems, as well as other connectivity initiatives in North America. NagraStar's primary focus lies in delivering and maintaining security measures to protect against piracy, ranging from field investigations to legal actions and collaborations with law enforcement agencies. As of 2022, the company's annual revenue was estimated to be around $10 million.
In a legal victory for NagraStar, SetTV was ordered by a US District Court in California to pay $90 million in damages and surrender hardware used to retransmit Dish programming. The court also exonerated NDS Group companies, including NagraStar, in a separate lawsuit brought by satellite operator EchoStar. Additionally, NagraStar and its US sister company extended their agreement with a US company.
