The New York Yankees are a privately owned American professional baseball team founded in 1901 (though officially established under their current name in 1913), headquartered in the Bronx borough of New York City. Competing in Major League Baseball's American League East Division, they are one of two MLB teams in New York City. The franchise's origins trace back to the purchase of the Baltimore Orioles franchise rights, leading to the creation of the New York Highlanders. In 2023, the Yankees employed approximately 1370 people and generated less than $1 billion in revenue.
