North Carolina State University, collaborating with The Weather Channel, indicated on April 25 that El Niño conditions could contribute to a near or below-average hurricane season, with forecasts predicting 12 named storms, including six hurricanes, two of which may reach at least Category 3 strength. On April 24, university researchers developed Roblonski, a compact automated robotic platform designed for foundational photochemical assays, publishing their findings in ACS Central Science. Earlier the same day, North Carolina State University named Jim Pfaendtner as its new executive vice chancellor and provost, effective May 11, 2026. Pfaendtner previously served as the Louis Martin-Vega Dean of Engineering at NC State.
