Odido, the largest telecommunications service provider in the Netherlands, confirmed on February 19 a cyber attack that exposed personal information for over 6.2 million customers. The Hague-based company detected signs of the attack over the weekend of February 7-8 and immediately launched an investigation with internal and external cybersecurity experts. This security breach not only affected Odido's direct customers but also those of its mobile virtual network operator Ben NL. Earlier, on February 16, Financieele Dagblad reported that Odido retained personal data of former customers for significantly longer than its stated two-year policy, with some data held for up to 10 years. These former customers consequently received emails informing them their data was compromised in the recent incident. Odido was formerly known as T-Mobile Netherlands and Tele2 Netherlands.
