OpenAP is a privately held US-based advertising technology company founded in 2017. It provides data, targeting, and identity solutions for television advertising. As of 2023, the company employs approximately 50 people and generates less than $10 million in annual revenue. OpenAP's parent companies include Warner Bros. Discovery (including Discovery+ and HBO Max), NBCUniversal, Fox Corporation, and Paramount Global. Its primary focus is facilitating audience-based buying of television advertisements.
On January 9, 2023, OpenAP, along with Fox, NBCUniversal, Paramount, TelevisaUnivision, and Warner Bros., announced a new Joint Industry Committee (JIC) to enable multiple currencies by executing a measurement certification and creating a unified streaming viewership dataset. Discovery joined Fox, NBCUniversal, and ViacomCBS as a minority owner in OpenAP in a joint venture announced in January. This commitment aims to accelerate Discovery’s advanced advertising business growth and scale the overall advanced TV market. Later, in September, Comscore, iSpot, and VideoAmp received conditional certification and progressed to the data evaluation stage within the JIC, with the goal of full certification by early 2024. The JIC also provided an overview of its roadmap and future measurement certification focus.
