On August 27, the attorneys general for Iowa and Montana asked the U.S. Supreme Court to block what they described as California’s "politicized" lawsuit, which aims to stop the merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. This followed the Block the Merger Coalition launching a petition on the same day, urging 12 state attorneys general to reject "empty concessions" from Paramount and maintain their stance against the proposed $110 billion merger with Warner Bros. Earlier on August 27, amid multiple state lawsuits, including one from its current home state of California, attempting to block the over $111 billion merger with Warner Brothers Discovery over anti-trust concerns, reports indicated David Ellison was considering a California exit for Paramount, with Nashville as a potential new location. California Attorney General Rob Bonta also stated on August 27 that settlement talks with Paramount executives could resume. These discussions were previously canceled by Bonta on August 24, who cited Paramount’s alleged leaks to the media as "playing games." Additionally, earlier that day, reports detailed Paramount’s plans for James Gunn and DC Studios following a potential Warner Bros. merger, noting the disappointing box office performance of "Supergirl" raised questions about the future of DC Studios.
