News Summary:

Spanish rural telecommunications provider Avatel terminated merger negotiations with Catalan MVNO Parlem on March 27, 2026, nearly a year after the consolidation process began. Avatel, Spain's fifth-largest fiber-optic operator, had previously agreed to acquire 50.01 percent of Parlem's shares in exchange for its business in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and the Levante region, pending due diligence. This development followed Parlem's board of directors' approval on December 16, 2025, to purchase Avatel's assets in Catalonia, the Balearic Islands, and parts of the Valencian Community. That earlier operation, which concluded negotiations initiated in July, intended for Avatel to control 50.1% of Parlem's capital as payment for the acquired assets. Earlier, on October 7, 2025, Parlem acquired BlauFibra, a local operator based in Mollet del Vallès (Barcelona), strengthening Parlem's territorial growth strategy and expanding its presence across the Vallès Oriental and Vallès Occidental regions.
