News Summary:

PBS North Carolina received six Emmy Awards on February 14, 2026, at the 40th Midsouth Emmy Awards ceremony, acknowledging artistic, educational, and technical excellence in television. Previously, on October 1, 2025, the organization confirmed it laid off 32 employees over the preceding two weeks following federal funding cuts that led to a multi-million dollar reduction in its budget. This staffing reduction resulted from President Donald Trump’s signing of the Rescissions Act of 2025, which eliminated federal funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a primary federal support source for PBS affiliates. Earlier, on September 27, 2025, officials stated that PBS North Carolina implemented “involuntary separations” affecting over 30 positions across various divisions over the previous ten days, aiming to secure long-term stability amidst budget shortfalls. CEO David Crabtree noted on September 26, 2025, that these 32 involuntary separations, completed in the ten days ending that Thursday, were in addition to five voluntary separations accepted in September and the elimination of 16 vacant positions.
