Radio Mayak (Радио Маяк, MK), a state-owned Russian broadcasting company founded in 1964, operates radio and television services. Originally established as an All-Union Radio station focusing on news and light music, its programming has included news broadcasts, talk shows, and popular music. The company also manages Radio Yunost, a youth music channel. Initially broadcasting on longwave, medium wave, and shortwave, Radio Mayak introduced advertising in the 1980s. Its name, meaning "lighthouse" or "beacon" in Russian, and programming format have been suggested to be influenced by the BBC Light Programme.
