Reason Studios, formerly known as Propellerhead Software, is a privately owned company headquartered in Sweden, founded in 1994 and employing approximately 70 individuals. The company reported $8.0M in revenue as of 2024. Functioning as a music software company, its main product focus is audio.
Music production platform LANDR announced on January 27, 2026, its acquisition of Reason Studios, bringing the Swedish company's influential digital audio workstation (DAW) under the same umbrella as its AI tools. The deal marks a strategic bet on interoperability, with LANDR aiming for Reason and its signature Rack plugin system to run inside every major DAW, not just function as a standalone workstation. Previously, on January 22, Reason Studios announced the Reason Rack plugin became available separately, alongside reduced pricing across its products, citing these as the first major steps following its journey with LANDR. This move was intended to allow music makers content with their DAW of choice to leverage the Reason Rack's power. Earlier, on January 21, the Reason Rack became available as a standalone purchase or subscription for the first time, with Reason Studios also introducing lower pricing and new tools for Reason+. News outlets on the same day reported LANDR, a Montreal-based cloud music platform, had acquired the Swedish software company known for its emulations of classic synths, drum machines, and effects.
