Radio New Zealand (RNZ), a New Zealand state-owned entity established in 1995, operates broadcast television and radio services. Employing approximately 590 people, RNZ's annual revenue was less than $50 million in 2024. Its services include three nationwide radio networks (RNZ National, RNZ Concert, and an AM network relaying Parliament), an international shortwave service (Radio New Zealand Pacific), and a news division providing current affairs and news coverage. Funding for its National and Concert networks is provided by New Zealand On Air.
The Government announced the appointment of Andrew Szusterman to the Radio New Zealand Board of Governors, effective October 1, 2025. The Minister for Media and Communications, Paul Goldsmith, stated that Szusterman is an experienced media executive with extensive experience in television, commercial radio, and digital platforms in New Zealand and overseas. A separate news item reported that Glen, formerly Chief Performance Officer at Radio New Zealand, brings strategic thinking, leadership experience, and a connection to water in Aotearoa. Radio New Zealand also recently published an article on teenagers' changing communication patterns, noting a trend of unanswered calls due to asynchronous communication preferences. A Radio New Zealand report also covered a breakthrough recycling process in England that uses nitric acid to recover valuable metals from old electric vehicle batteries for reuse.
