On July 31, 2026, Sentech connected Southern Africa to Namibia's premier pageant weekend, enabling viewers across the region to watch the Miss Teen Namibia and Miss Namibia 2026 pageants live on NBC1 via its satellite broadcast network and stream them on Freevision Play, Sentech's digital streaming platform, through a partnership with the Namibian Broadcasting Corporation (NBC). Earlier, on July 7, Sentech prepared to implement South Africa’s satellite program after exceeding most operational and financial targets, achieving 89% of its predetermined objectives during the fourth quarter of the 2025/26 financial year, despite falling short of new revenue growth ambitions. Previously, on June 19, South Africa’s National Treasury allocated R700 million to the signal distributor in the 2026 budget. Finance Minister Enoch Godongwana acknowledged that this allocation occurred without reviewing the entity’s business model, governance structure, or long-term financial sustainability, in response to Parliamentary questions.

AFree TV, a new free-to-view streaming platform dedicated to showcasing large-scale African content, has launched its services in South Africa, MyBroadband reported. Powered by Sentech's Freevision Play over-the-top (OTT) platform, the service provides viewers worldwide with access to diverse African programming. Sentech said Afree TV brings together African broadcasters and content owners to amplify material from the continent on a global stage. It is a free, ad-supported television (FAST) service.
