Sky Deutschland, a privately owned German company headquartered in Germany and a subsidiary of Comcast Corporation, functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer. Founded in 1991 as Premiere, the company, with approximately 1810 employees, reported $2.0B in revenue as of 2024. Specializing in media and TV services, Sky Deutschland operates a direct broadcast satellite Pay TV platform, rebranded as 'Sky' on July 4, 2009, for Germany, Austria, and Switzerland (through Sky Switzerland). It provides a collection of basic and premium digital subscription television channels of different categories via satellite and cable television. The original Premiere channel launched as a single analogue channel on the Astra 1A satellite, entirely without any commercials, showing films dubbed into German, as well as in original audio, live football matches from the German Bundesliga and Austrian Bundesliga, documentaries, concerts, and TV series. The service has since expanded to consist of many digital channels, with the programming service itself provided by its subsidiary Sky Deutschland Fernsehen GmbH & Co. KG.
