On October 1, 2026, The MICHELIN Guide announced its expansion to Phu Quoc, making it the fourth Vietnamese destination, with the Vietnam 2027 restaurant selection scheduled for mid-2027. Gwendal Poullennec, International Director of the MICHELIN Guide, noted Phu Quoc's distinctive culinary identity connected to the sea and local products such as its fish sauce and aromatic pepper. Previously, on September 30, the travel guidebook Lonely Planet included Sun Group's JW Marriott Phu Quoc Emerald Bay Resort in its list of 13 Asian hotels recommended by its editorial team. Earlier, on September 29, Sun Group and Marriott International exchanged a strategic cooperation document in New York, outlining plans to explore a broader portfolio of hotels and resorts in Phu Quoc, Da Nang, and other Vietnamese locations, with an initial phase in Phu Quoc comprising over 7,000 rooms across 17 hotel towers ahead of APEC 2027. This followed Sun Group's proposal on September 28 to invest VND10 trillion ($385 million) in a safari and eco-tourism complex on the outskirts of Hanoi, aimed at developing the capital's western part by utilizing its ecological landscape and tourism assets.
