Tampnet, a privately owned Norwegian telecommunications company founded in 2001, provides connectivity and distribution services to the offshore energy sector. Employing approximately 150 people, the company's infrastructure consists of subsea fiber optic cables and wireless 4G LTE networks, serving the North Sea and Gulf of Mexico. In 2023, Tampnet's revenue was less than $25 million.
On February 25, 2025, a partnership was announced between Tampnet and Armada to deliver AI-driven applications for offshore operations. This collaboration combines Tampnet's offshore connectivity with Armada's edge computing capabilities. On March 17, 2025, Tampnet, along with Cinia Oy, NORDUnet A/S, Tusass A/S, the Dutch Subsea Cable Coalition, and GlobalConnect AB, signed a Memorandum of Understanding for a Pan-Arctic Cable System. Tampnet also secured a contract with Woodside to provide fiber-optic connectivity for its Trion floating production system offshore Mexico. This project, involving the installation of a 200-km fiber-optic cable in the Gulf of Mexico, will support remote operations, safety, and training. The project marks Tampnet's entry into the Mexican offshore market.
