News Summary:

On April 21, 2026, the Fiji Independent Commission Against Corruption (FICAC) gained approval to amend charges against former Telecom Fiji Limited (TFL) Director Sanjay Kaba on the final day of his trial, changing the date of the alleged offense and replacing "tender" with "Expression of Interest," acknowledging Kaba's resignation on December 7, 2018. This followed testimony on April 20 from TFL's former Manager Treasury, Samuel Brown, and Financial Controller, Ashika Nandani, who both agreed that a $766,327.22 payment to Kaba's company, Houng Lee Kaba Jacob Limited, was legitimate. Brown stated Kaba had no control over the internal payment procedures. Earlier on April 2, Telecom Fiji offered free fibre installation to customers in fibre-ready areas, providing a $258.03 saving on standard setup costs, in response to rising demand for home internet due to increased online work and study. Previously, on March 17, Telecom Fiji reported a surge in cable theft as soaring global copper prices led scavengers to target telecom cables to extract copper lines.
