Terrestar Solutions Inc., a privately owned Canadian company founded in 2020, provides mobile satellite telecommunications services. Employing approximately 40 people, the company's offerings focus on delivering direct-to-device satellite connectivity for smartphones and Internet of Things (IoT) devices. In 2023, Terrestar Solutions reported revenues of around $25 million.
Terrestar Solutions partnered with TTP and Bittium to develop Sat Companion, a device enabling direct-to-mobile 5G NTN services compatible with all smartphones. TTP developed a high-gain antenna system for this project, meeting Specific Absorption Rate (SAR) regulations. On an unspecified date, Terrestar awarded Bittium a EUR 2 million contract to help develop its 5G NTN service, providing NB-IoT based direct-to-mobile connectivity globally, including voice, SMS, and email. This followed an earlier Terrestar demonstration of NTN-driven voice over NB-IoT. Bittium and Terrestar Solutions continued their collaboration on July 8, 2025, advancing development of a standards-based 5G Non-Terrestrial Network (NTN) solution for direct-to-mobile satellite connectivity, enabling standard smartphones to connect to satellites for services such as SMS, chat, voice, and email. The solution aims to deliver essential mobile functionality in remote and underserved areas.
