The Arab States Broadcasting Union, also known as ASBU, is a non-profit organization headquartered in Saudi Arabia. Founded in February 1969 in Khartoum and operating with approximately 50 employees, the entity focuses on media production. Functioning as one of the oldest pan-Arab institutions belonging to the League of Arab States system, ASBU's core objective is to strengthen ties and promote cooperation among broadcasters in the Arab States for the purpose of production and content development.
The Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU) recently participated in the European Broadcasting Union (EBU) Media Summit 2026, held from April 21 to 24 in Sofia, an event that gathered over 150 participants from 37 countries. On May 5, ASBU announced it rescheduled its 26th Arab Radio and Television Festival to September 21–24, 2026, an event initially slated for June. Earlier, on January 28, ASBU's Academy for Media Training launched its 2026 training season, featuring 27 specialized sessions and workshops. This followed the first meeting of the Arab Media Excellence Award committee for its tenth edition, which convened at the General Secretariat's headquarters on January 25, with Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khatabi in attendance. Previously, from January 18 to 22, an ASBU delegation led by Director General Eng.
