The Recording Academy confirmed on October 2, 2026, that the Grammy Awards' Asian pop category will debut in 2027 as planned. CEO Harvey Mason Jr. had previously suggested the new category was being reconsidered after the plan, announced in June, stirred controversy, but the Academy maintained its stance despite a reported boycott by BTS. Earlier, on September 12, Kenya's bid to host the Recording Academy's Africa headquarters advanced following talks between organization officials and President William Ruto and other stakeholders in Nairobi. Recording Academy officials spent the week meeting Kenyan artists, government officials, and industry figures as part of a creative economy collaboration with the United States Embassy. The Academy also indicated that plans to initiate key milestones were underway and that Kenyan mentee artists would travel to the United States the following month.
