Founded in 1842 and headquartered in Chile, the Universidad de Chile is a privately owned institution with approximately 11,440 employees. While primarily known as a public research university located in Santiago, Chile, its operations also include broadcast television and radio services.
Researchers at the University of Chile's Laboratory of Genomics and Genetics of Biological Interactions (LG²IB) and INTA identified and characterized the complete kinome of Atlantic salmon (Salmo salar). Also, INTA and the University of Chile researchers found that CAPE, a compound in propolis, activates the TRPV1 ion channel in endothelial cells, resulting in an antioxidant response. This research suggests therapeutic potential for CAPE in cardiovascular health. A separate study by the University of Chile's Institute of Nutrition and Food Technology (INTA), published in Frontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology, established a link between mitochondrial metabolism and frailty in older adults, proposing mitochondrial respiration measurement as a potential biomarker for early frailty detection.
