The State University of New York at Buffalo, commonly referred to as the University at Buffalo (UB), UBuffalo, UBuff, or SUNY Buffalo, is a publicly owned entity based in the United States. Founded in 1846 as a private medical college, the university later merged with the State University of New York system in 1962. It functions as a public research university in Buffalo and Amherst, New York, and is recognized as one of two flagship institutions of the SUNY system, alongside Stony Brook University.
