The University of Nebraska-Lincoln (UNL) is a state-owned public land-grant research university located in Lincoln, Nebraska. Established in 1869 by the Nebraska Legislature under the Morrill Act, it served as the sole University of Nebraska until 1968, when it became the flagship institution of the expanded University of Nebraska system. Currently employing approximately 10,240 people, UNL is Nebraska's oldest university and is governed by a Board of Regents elected to six-year terms.
