University of New Mexico, also known as UNM, is a state-owned institution headquartered in Albuquerque, New Mexico, United States. Founded in 1889 by the New Mexico Territorial Legislature, and operating with approximately 8,760 employees, it functions as a public research university specializing in higher education. It is recognized as the state's second oldest university and is the largest by enrollment, with 22,630 students reported in 2023.
