USA Pickleball, a privately owned entity headquartered in the United States, was founded in 2005 and employs approximately 140 individuals. Primarily focused on racquet sports, specifically pickleball, the organization was established to advance the sport on a national level. As the official governing body of pickleball in the United States, it promotes the growth of pickleball by maintaining the rules, setting player ratings, and advancing the sport.
USA Pickleball (USAP) indicated a shift in its approach to paddle regulation on July 18, signaling it would regulate what a paddle *does* rather than what it *is*, addressing a long-standing debate within the sport. This followed USAP's announcement on July 14 of its new Spin Rate Test, which will measure actual ball rotation and cap RPM at 2100, effective October 1. The introduction of this test highlights challenges in certifying equipment while stewarding the sport. Earlier, on June 16, an independent test revealed that 40 out of 42 USAP-approved paddles exceeded the organization's own surface roughness certification limits, despite players relying on USAP certification for paddle legality. Previously, on June 10, USA Pickleball quietly delisted several paddle models from its Approved Paddle List due to surface grit investigations, even after approving approximately 250 new paddle models in 2026. In May, USA Pickleball partnered with Numotion, naming the company the Title Partner of the USA Pickleball Wheelchair National Championships, to advance wheelchair pickleball nationwide and increase access and support for athletes.
