It functions as the core theatrical division of TelevisaUnivision, managed under its Televisa Cine arm, and specializes in content rights. The studio was initially established as an unnamed film division in 1971 and later officially named Televicine in 1978, alongside the launch of Videocine. In 1999, both entities merged under the Videocine banner. Today, it controls an extensive, multi-billion-peso proprietary intellectual property library encompassing over 400 feature films. Its entertainment catalogue and multi-market franchise library include titles such as No manches Frida, No manches Frida 2, ¿Qué culpa tiene el niño?, A la mala, Amar te duele, Mirreyes contra Godínez, Hazlo como hombre, La leyenda de la Llorona, the Leyendas animated franchise co-produced with Ánima Estudios, and El Chanfle.
