The city of Delano plans to sell a portion of the former Voice of America property while retaining another part for future park purposes, according to its city council agenda on April 3, 2026. This follows an appeals court order on April 2, 2026, which halted the reinstatement of Voice of America staff, thereby prolonging uncertainty at the global U.S. broadcaster. The organization, which broadcasts in 49 languages under a congressional mandate to provide unbiased news, had an audience of 360 million before former Phoenix TV news anchor Kari Lake was installed at VOA’s parent agency by President Donald Trump. Previously, on April 1, 2026, a three-judge panel from the U.S. Court of Appeals for the District of Columbia Circuit suspended a federal judge’s order that had required the Trump administration to bring hundreds of Voice of America employees back to work from paid leave, issuing a stay pending the government's appeal of the lower court's March 17 ruling.
