WINDTRE is a privately owned company headquartered in Italy, and is part of the multinational CK Hutchison Holdings Limited. With approximately 4,160 employees, the company functions as a fixed and mobile telecoms operator in Italy.
On February 13th, CK Hutchison Holdings cancelled the sale of a majority stake in its Italian network infrastructure portfolio to EQT AB due to unsatisfied conditions precedent. Separately, on an unspecified date, Italy’s finance police launched an investigation into the company’s Italian telecommunications unit, Wind Tre SpA, regarding potential tax evasion during a €3.4 billion asset sale to Cellnex Telecom SA. The investigation focuses on whether registration taxes were paid on the sale of thousands of mobile phone masts. In other news, Wind Tre SpA agreed to acquire the infrastructure and commercial activities of Opnet SpA, a wireless broadband operator, for €485 million. Jefferies also sold its OpNet operations to Wind Tre SpA for €485 million.
