A1 Telekom Austria, also known as A1 Austria, a privately owned company headquartered in Austria, is a subsidiary of A1 Telekom Austria Group. Founded in 1881, the company employs approximately 4,130 individuals and functions as a tier 1 media tech buyer. The company operates as a fixed and mobile network operator in Austria, serving 5.4 million mobile customers and 2.3 million fixed-line customers. Its origins trace back to Austria's first GSM mobile phone network, which began testing in 1992 and commercial operations in 1994 under the name Mobilkom Austria. Mobilkom Austria was initially part of the Austrian state-owned PTT agency Post- und Telegraphenverwaltung (PTV, ÖPT) until it was spun off into its own company in 1996. Following Mobilkom's merger with A1 Telekom Austria Group in July 2010, the entity began operating under the name A1 Telekom Austria.
