Argonne National Laboratory is a state-owned, multidisciplinary science and engineering research center located near Chicago, Illinois. Founded in 1946 as part of the Manhattan Project, it is one of the oldest national laboratories operated by the U.S. Department of Energy (DOE). Employing approximately 4,840 people, Argonne conducts research and develops technologies to address national challenges in energy, environmental science, and national security.
