Fraunhofer is a non-profit organization headquartered in Germany, founded in 1949, and operating with approximately 2,560 employees. Functioning as an application-oriented research organization, its main offering is research services.
On February 22, 2026, Fraunhofer convened global leaders at the Indo-German Innovation and Technology Forum, "AI for Economic Development and Social Good," during the India AI Summit 2026 in Bharat Mandapam. The forum aimed to advance applied AI across manufacturing, agriculture, healthcare, and governance, reinforcing the partnership's focus on trust, responsibility, and shared democratic values. Earlier, on February 21, Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute published a study analyzing real-world usage data from nearly a million plug-in hybrid vehicles (PHEVs) across Europe. The study, titled "Regulatory Adjustments for Plug-in Hybrid Vehicles in Europe," found that PHEVs consume significantly more fuel than manufacturers claim, challenging current assumptions about fuel efficiency and emissions. The findings could prompt a reevaluation of climate policy regulations and vehicle certifications.
