News Summary:

On August 6, 2026, the Ministry of Public Administration appointed journalist Kazi Jesin as the new Director General of Bangladesh Television (BTV) on a one-year contractual basis, marking an administrative reshuffle within the state broadcasting operations. Previously, on June 9, BTV secured the broadcasting rights for the 2026 FIFA World Cup directly from FIFA for 727.1 million taka, covering all 104 matches from the opening game through to the final. This acquisition followed growing concerns in Bangladesh, noted on May 13, that local audiences might not be able to watch the tournament live due to broadcasters not having secured telecast rights at that time.
