News Summary:

On April 3, 2026, Scottish Borders Council approved an application for new jockeys’ weighing room facilities and an event space at a historic Borders racecourse. The proposal involves relocating existing jockeys’ facilities from the grandstand to a purpose-built building adjacent to the parade ring, while retaining and enhancing some catering provision. Previously, on April 2, the British Horseracing Authority (BHA) reduced jockey Billy Loughnane's 21-day ban to 14 days, deeming he did not hear an instruction from a vet. Loughnane received the original three-week ban after stewards found he acted against a vet's instructions on March 26 at Southwell, where his mount was kicked by another runner and withdrawn. This followed the BHA's refusal on April 1 to grant a licence to Chelmsford City Racecourse’s intended new operating company, Golden Mile Racing Ltd., resulting in the cancellation of upcoming fixtures, including its Good Friday race. Golden Mile Racing Ltd. formed after the previous licence holder, Great Leighs Estates Ltd., was placed in administration.
