China Mobile International, also known as CMI, is a publicly owned company headquartered in Hong Kong. Operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile, it lists China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) among its parent companies. Founded in 2010, the company employs approximately 1,420 individuals and reported $4.1 billion in revenue as of 2025. Specializing in telecoms, CMI is mainly responsible for the operation of China Mobile's international business.
On August 6, 2026, a bipartisan congressional probe found that major Chinese state-owned telecommunications companies, including China Mobile International, continue to maintain a presence inside critical U.S. internet infrastructure. This finding emerged from the 49-page report titled “Stranger Pings: Chinese Telecom Companies Infiltrate U.S. Infrastructure,” which the House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) released on August 4 following an 18-month investigation, years after federal regulators restricted their operations on national security grounds. Previously, on August 5, a House committee reported that U.S. telecommunications companies connected their systems to data centers and related infrastructure in ways that exposed them to cybersecurity vulnerabilities, potentially enabling the "Salt Typhoon" hacking campaign that breached several mobile carriers in 2024. Earlier, on August 4, Thai telco True Corp confirmed that China Mobile International was considering selling a small portion of its 7.81% stake in the company, while denying a Bloomberg report claiming CMI planned to divest its entire holding.
