China Mobile International, also known as CMI, is a publicly owned company headquartered in Hong Kong. Operating as a wholly-owned subsidiary of China Mobile, it lists China Mobile Hong Kong (CMHK) among its parent companies. Founded in 2010, the company employs approximately 1,420 individuals and reported $4.1 billion in revenue as of 2025. Specializing in telecoms, CMI is mainly responsible for the operation of China Mobile's international business.
On August 6, 2026, a bipartisan congressional probe found that major Chinese state-owned telecommunications companies retain a presence in critical U.S. internet infrastructure, years after federal regulators restricted their operations on national security grounds. The House Select Committee on the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) released the 49-page report, “Stranger Pings: Chinese Telecom Companies Infiltrate U.S. Infrastructure,” following an 18-month investigation. Previously, on August 5, a House committee reported that U.S. telecommunications companies exposed their systems to cybersecurity vulnerabilities by connecting them to certain data centers and related infrastructure. These connections potentially facilitated the massive Salt Typhoon hacking campaign, which breached several mobile carriers in 2024. This follows True Corp's confirmation on August 4 that China Mobile International is looking to sell a small portion of its 7.81% stake in the Thai telco, refuting a Bloomberg report that claimed China Mobile planned to unload its entire stake.
