On March 13, 2026, ZTE Corporation finalized a network expansion and modernization agreement with Ethio telecom on the sidelines of Mobile World Congress (MWC) 2026 in Barcelona, a move expected to significantly strengthen connectivity and accelerate digital inclusion across Ethiopia. Previously, on March 12, ZTE signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Bangladesh telco Grameenphone at the MWC 2026 event to collaborate on deploying large language model (LLM) and agentic AI technologies to build autonomous networks. This initiative will utilize ZTE's AIR Net autonomous network solution for events such as cross-domain RAN and core fault handling, as well as customer complaint management. Earlier that day, an analysis of China’s technology investments in Nigeria indicated that ZTE, alongside Huawei, controls over 90% of Nigeria’s telecoms equipment market, supported by combined investments exceeding $1.6 billion between 2010 and 2020.
