News Summary:

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky announced on March 14, 2026, that Ukraine will test the Franco-Italian SAMP/T NG air defense system, a Thales co-developed product, against ballistic missile targets once France provides it, identifying it as the sole current alternative to the U.S. Patriot system. Also on March 14, Thales unveiled a Polaris-based light tactical vehicle equipped with its FZ605 five-tube launcher at the BEDEX 2026 defense exhibition in Brussels, showcasing a new method for mobile precision fire support for light ground forces. Earlier the same day, Thales launched its SkyDefender multi-layer multi-domain Integrated Air and Missile Defence system, designed to protect against various air threats, from drones to hypersonic missiles. Separately on March 14, Thales in the UK received a contract from the Ministry of Defence to advance the Mounted Short Range Air Defence (MSHORAD) programme, extending its assessment phase and supporting technology development to replace the Army’s Stormer High Velocity Missile Self-Propelled system. This follows tests conducted by the Belgian Air Force on March 13, where Thales' FZ275 laser-guided rocket was used on F-16s to address the threat posed by attack drones.
