Separately on July 27, Chris Dare's yacht Ambition, acquired sixteen months prior to race the Rolex Sydney Hobart with his son Lockie, competed in the event, having previously retired from the Hobart race due to a keel bolt issue. Ambition raced against defending champions and Admiral's Cup competitors. Earlier on July 28, the Cruising Yacht Club of Australia announced that its John Messenger Women’s Match Racing Regatta will be a World Sailing Grade 3 event this year. The regatta has been conducted annually since 1996 and is open to female teams. Previously, on July 14, Pam Messenger and Rear Admiral Lee Goddard CSC received the Commodore’s Medal at the club’s Annual General Meeting, in recognition of their "invaluable contributions" as CYCA volunteers. Former Commodore Sam Haynes praised both recipients for their selfless work for the Club, which was founded by volunteers in 1944.
