Das Bundesarchiv, a privately owned company based in Germany, was founded in 1952 and operates with approximately 110 employees. The company focuses on entertainment content rights, functioning as the central German film archive. It is recognized as one of the world's largest film archives, storing over 1.1 million film rolls and approximately 210,000 film titles.
The Federal Archives, alongside the German National Library and the German Literature Archive Marbach, recently proposed to the Bundestag committee for culture and media that the federal government provide approximately 150 million euros for infrastructure development from 2027 to 2036, aiming to establish a digital long-term archive for German cultural heritage. Previously, in January 2026, the Federal Archives – Stasi Records Archive launched its traveling exhibition, "Alles Wissen Wollen. Die Stasi und ihre Dokumente," at the Youth Culture Center COSMOS in Coburg, where it was on display from January 21 to February 25. During the same month, the Archives of the Federal Republic of Germany (LAA) at the Federal Archives provided information on its processing procedures for the numerous inquiries it receives regarding the flight and expulsion of Germans at the end of World War II. Earlier, all federal archive offices closed for the holidays from December 24, 2025, to January 4, 2026.
