Der Spiegel, a privately owned company headquartered in Germany, was founded in 1994 with approximately 810 employees. The company functions as a German news magazine.
Der Spiegel reported on June 4 that German schools are confronting antisemitism, drawing from an April 24 edition survey of state education ministries that showed reported far-right antisemitic and racist incidents in Hesse surged from 39 in 2023 to 159 in 2025. Previously, on May 14, the outlet published an investigative report detailing German schools' increasing struggles with the consequences of mass migration and the growing influence of conservative Islamic social norms in classrooms, noting a fundamental alteration of school life in parts of Germany due to the demographic transformation of urban schools. Earlier, on May 10, Der Spiegel cited sources close to the German government, reporting that the ruling coalition was discussing President Frank-Walter Steinmeier as a potential candidate to represent the European Union in possible peace talks to end the war in Ukraine or to mediate in EU-Russia negotiations. This followed an April 26 report by Der Spiegel indicating Germany had signed €111 billion ($130 billion) worth of military procurement contracts since 2022, but its Defense Ministry could not confirm how many of these 47,000 deals had been delivered or implemented.
