Functioning as a tier 1 media tech buyer, the company provides telecommunications and digital services, offering a comprehensive range of mobile, internet, data, fixed line, and TV services.
On September 7, 2026, President Dr. Mohamed Muizzu announced the government's plan to acquire a controlling 51 percent stake in Dhiraagu, following a Cabinet decision, which also includes taking full ownership of the Malé Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). This announcement followed former President Mohamed Nasheed's opposition on September 6 to increasing the government’s shareholding in Dhiraagu, arguing it would waste public funds and compromise the telecommunications company's independence from political influence, given its privatized ownership structure. Earlier, President Muizzu had stated that Dhiraagu remains a strategic asset and regaining majority government control would serve the public interest. Separately on September 6, Dhiraagu partnered with SEAD to promote ocean literacy among young people, aiming to foster understanding and skills for marine environment protection. Previously, on August 30, the Dhiraagu Malé Open 2026 concluded, celebrating the top swimmers in an event that drew over 420 participants, marking it as the largest open water swimming competition held in Malé.
