EdgeConneX, a privately owned company headquartered in the US, was founded in 2009, operates with approximately 250 employees, and specializes in data centre infrastructure. The company builds and operates purpose-built data centers.
On August 19, EdgeConneX appointed Winthrop to construct a data center in Skellefteå, Sweden. This development follows EdgeConneX's finalization of a deal on July 24 to acquire half of Northvolt's former industrial site in Skellefteå from American battery company Lyten. EdgeConneX will occupy DS4, one of the existing buildings, while Lyten retains other structures and the Revolt recycling operation. Also on August 19, the village of Ashville must submit a referendum petition to the county Board of Elections, seeking a public vote on the village’s efforts to facilitate the construction of two new data centers and a power plant. Previously, on August 17, discussions in Ashville centered on the finances of the EdgeConneX and PowerConneX facilities being built there, particularly regarding the potential need for a new water facility.
